- how an increasing number of South Africans believe that their lives will improve over the next five years, reflecting a renewed sense of cautious optimism;
- the political goodwill surrounding the Government of National Unity (GNU) and the potential for a robust Progressive Caucus to challenge and motivate effective governance;
- the sound state of race relations among South Africans; and
- areas of consensus on key policy outcomes and socio-economic aspirations, which point to new common ground for a programme of government in the national interest.
