On July 16 2021, the parliamentary ad hoc committee tabled a new version of the Constitutional Amendment for public comment. In a departure from its mandate and previous versions, the committee introduced the notion of "custodianship" of land in addition to expropriation without compensation. Our legal experts have shown that "custodianship" would amount to selective land nationalisation.

If passed into law, this Constitutional Amendment – in conjunction with the Expropriation Bill which the ANC is also trying to pass – would empower “expropriating agents” at municipal, provincial, and national levels to enforce the dispossession of private property without compensation, doing intolerable damage to citizens of this republic.

Even if you signed up to oppose EWC before, it is very important that you raise your objections again now.
