Less than 80 kilometres separate Haiti from Cuba. In Haiti in 1804, a large group of black men staged the most successful slave uprising in history. In Cuba in 1959, a small group of white men staged a coup that led to communist rule. The black descendants of the freed slaves still rule Haiti. The white communists still rule Cuba. Both countries are in an awful mess. They are probably the two poorest countries in the Caribbean. It is interesting to look at their histories and wonder what went wrong in each case.No publisherForeign RelationsEconomics2024/03/25 12:35:00 GMT+0News ItemLetter: The IRR grounds all its work in classical liberalism - Sowetan

Met ń verkiesing om die draai, is dit te verwagte dat die kwessie van Suid-Afrika se kieserstamme weer na vore sal tree.No publisherDemocracy, Politics and Elections2024/03/24 00:00:00 GMT+0News ItemTeen pregnancies: Zuma embodies the problem, not the solution - Politicsweb

Almost three years ago, when the government said it would partially sell off state-owned South African Airways (SAA), it appeared that the vice-like grip of ANC ideology on state ownership had at last been broken. Last week, however, Pravin Gordhan, Minister of Public Enterprises, said the deal had been scrapped, as his department had not been able to agree on a price with the buyers. No publisherEconomicsDemocracy, Politics and ElectionsCorruption and Accountability2024/03/20 12:20:00 GMT+0News ItemExpropriation Bill will strike deathblow to SA’s chances of economic recovery – IRR
