Coalition Convention: IRR to submit policy plan for SA revival

The Institute of Race Relations (IRR) is to submit a written statement on non-racial, pro-growth policy options at the forthcoming Coalition Convention scheduled for 16-17 August.

The IRR has not been alone in pointing out that South Africa is approaching a political transition towards a collaborative governance model, potentially placing multiple parties uniting the moderate middle of South Africa in a position to lead a non-racial, pro-growth revival of our country. This opportunity has become increasingly viable as the nation gears up for the 2024 National and Provincial Elections.

After 30 years of sole ANC governance, 7.9 million South Africans are out of work, load-shedding is costing the economy a billion rand a day, per capita GDP has fallen by R3 000 in real terms over the past decade, and 74 people are murdered each day. A fresh start is crucial.

Says Hermann Pretorius, IRR head of strategic communications: "A thriving South Africa is within reach. Simple, practical reforms can spark significant growth, inviting investment, reviving the economy, and restoring jobs and dignity for countless citizens. Adopting a non-racial, pro-growth policy plan like that of the IRR is the right thing to do."

The IRR will publish its submission once it has been considered by the Convention. More detailed proposals for specific policy areas covered by the plan will be published in the run-up to the elections. The IRR continues its extensive formal and informal promotion of non-racial, pro-growth policy alternatives. All policy proposals will be available at www.irr.org.za.
